Hi there! And welcome to International Women in Berlin. You may know us from the facebook group of the same name.
This group was created in order to be a safe space for women who are not from Berlin but live here. It was designed to be a place where women could speak openly about problems they had, questions about the city, and general support. Quickly, it has become a place where women can come for anything they need, from places to live to life advice from women in a similar position to them.
My name is Bruna, and I am the creator and admin of the facebook group. I moved to Berlin from Brazil around 7 years ago, and joined a few ‘expat’ groups on facebook where I could seek help or advice and possibly connect with some other international people too. However, I was somewhat disappointed by some of the negativity that circulated in some of the groups that I had joined; I witnessed people being put down for asking genuine questions, and that was not the kind of group that I wanted to be a part of. This is when I decided to create my own.
I wanted to create a safe place where other women could seek help and advice without fear of being torn down, so I decided to make a womens-only group with a focus on empathy and nonviolent communication, so that we could help one another to the best of our abilities.
Four years later, the group has over 20,000 members and a wonderful, supportive online community of women living in Berlin. Members ask any questions they have and receive support and advice in return no matter what they are about. It is the perfect example of women supporting women, and of that I am very proud!
I hope you enjoy the content that will be posted on this site. It is designed as a way to organise the amazing information from the facebook group in a way that can be easily found when women from the group need help! The content on the site will reflect the positive nature of the group, and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!
We hope that you enjoy the IWB project as much as we have enjoy running it :)
Please consider supporting this project with any contribution to our patreon page.
That will help us to keep our content accessible to everyone, and is massively valuable to the future of our group.
